Live 80/20 began from a vision of living a life greater than I. While the reaching goal was always to be living on only 20 percent of annual income, the first place the Live 80/20 vision portioned giving funds to was Missions. Missionaries provide the most important basic needs for people who are in need. In over 256 Countries, territories, and provinces, the 2,000+ missionaries that we fund provide basic necessities; things that most people take for granted.
From this conception, the Live 80/20 Department of Missions has grown to encompass more than just specified Missionaries. The Live 80/20 Department of Missions includes the following areas of reach: Church Planting, Church Funding, Church Infrastructure, Pastoral Relief, Missionary Support, and Missionary Relief.
Missionaries and Church Infrastructure. As the church moves to be far more organized and also allow organic ministry to still take place, there are some things concerning church infrastructure that can be updated, church-wide, to propel growth in a community. Live 80/20 sees many opportunities to address areas internally regarding church infrastructure. By addressing these areas with funding, the global Church is able to become more cohesive and stay on mission. The three main areas of focus concerning church-wide infrastructure are Kids/Youth areas, Hospitality areas, and Main Worship areas. Churches.
Missionaries Funding. The Assemblies of God World Missions’ purpose is to reach, plant, train, and serve so all can hear. They are committed to reaching all people in all nations. A missionaries budget can range from what country they will be going to, how many people are in their family, what projects they might be doing in that country, and the economic state of that country. There is often a serious lack between what a missionary needs to do and the financial assistance they receive. While missionaries have accepted a calling to be the hands and feet to reach the world so that none may perish, they are often expected to raise their own funds as a business owner. Live 80/20 works directly with the Assemblies of God World Missions to subsidize each missionary that qualifies for assistance so that no missionary is without.
Missionaries Furlough. comes back stateside every three to four years, and when they do their family needs time to relax and transition back to being in the United States. A time of furlough is when a missionary and their family reconnect with supporters and when missionaries are supposed to rest. Many mission supporters think that a furlough is a vacation, but any missionary knows that furlough for missionaries is not a vacation. For most missionaries, furlough is actually more work and more stressful than being out on the mission field. So much so, in fact, that many missionaries have taken to calling it a “home assignment”. Furlough is not restful, as originally intended. Live 80/20 will work with each Live 80/20 certified missionary to plan and organize a two week vacation. All expenses, including transportation, will be included. Live 80/20 certified missionaries will work directly with the Live 80/20 not-for-profit event coordinating team to plan every detail of their trip.
Church Planting. Church Planting encompasses equipping, funding, and networking leaders in the church with the ultimate goal of multiplying God’s Church across the United States. Leaders who desire to plant a church may contact the Live 80/20 Department of Missions and apply for a Church Planting grant. The total cost of Church Planting for one church, for one year is $353,240. Much of the first year includes start-up costs that are one-time purchases/fees. Therefore, the total cost of Church Planting for one church, for 3 years is $663,240. Is that desire to join in organizing these areas may contact the Live 80/20 Department of Missions and apply for the Church Infrastructure Program. The Live 80/20 team will meet with the applying churches and complete a plan to organize these areas.
Pastoral Relief Live 80/20 desires to address the issue of Pastoral Relief within the Department of Missions. Pastors are encouraged to take a sabbatical (period of leave for rest/study) at least every 5-7 years of continuous ministry. However, many pastors cannot take a sabbatical due to finances; they can’t afford to leave, have no financial resources to have anyone to fill in for them while they are gone, etc. While many churches are able to provide this paid leave to their pastors, many more are unable to meet this financial obligation. Pastors that desire to take a sabbatical may apply with the Live 80/20 Department of Missions and meet with our financial team and travel team to make arrangements. Live 80/20 will work with each qualifying pastor to plan and organize a two month sabbatical. All expenses, including transportation, will be included. Pastors will work directly with the Live 80/20 not-for-profit event coordinating team to plan every detail of their trip.
Church Funding. Existing churches and churches who have successfully completed the Church Planting build, may apply for Church Funding. Many churches have the right staff, vision, and calling, but lack the financial assistance to reach their full potential (for example, a church growing by numbers in a low income area, but unable to sustain financial obligations). Live 80/20 desires to see churches offer and create spaces that the community desires to be a part of; allowing the church to be at the center of a community. And no church should fail because there is no money to pay for a leader. It is a necessary tool to reach each successful church’s goals and keep them accountable as they use the resources God has given them. Saving is crucial to ministry protection and growth. The church’s cash reserves provide a safety net when unexpected expenses arise and enable them to explore new areas of ministry. Financial statements reflect the financial health of the church. This accounting best practice provides an accurate and organized picture of the church’s finances. Each church that desires financial assistance must provide church finances and successfully complete the Live 80/20 Envision, Design, and Build phases. Financial assistance is reviewed and approved through a case by case application process.
